FREE BUSINESS CLINIC: What impact has Brexit had on foreign exchange?

10AM - 4PM 28TH jULY 2016

Exchange rates are affected by a number of things including current affairs, a country’s economic performance, politics and data releases. Since the referendum, the uncertainty surrounding the UK economy has been unsettling leaving many UK exporters and importers in a tough position. The pound has decreased 11% against the Euro and 13% against the dollar since the Brexit vote. While this is making our exports more attractive, our imports are becoming significantly more expensive. With uncertainty being the most certain thing at the moment, Greater Manchester businesses need to protect themselves so that they aren’t seriously affected by the volatility of exchange rates.

Over the next few months there are a number of things that could further affect the rate of the pound, these include:
  • Further referendum calls from other EU nations
  • UK Prime Minister announcement
  • US elections in November
  • Bank of England interest rate cuts
  • UK quantitative easing programme
  • Release of consumer confidence figures
This event consists of a 30-minute one-to-one session with a currency expert from MoneyCorp providing free, no obligation advice to support Chamber members and ensure they remain commercially successful in these uncertain times.

This event is FREE. To register your interest to attend please click here.

Please note that exporters and importers will take priority over non-exporting/importing companies. Registration will be verified in order to ensure a non-sales environment. We will confirm your registration over email.

Over the last few weeks we have held a series of events to help you decide how to vote in the EU Referendum on 23rd June.

We worked with both the 'In' and ''Out' groups to host round-table sessions and hustings-style events, giving businesses the opportunity to put their questions to key representatives from both sides.

At the last event we held, Sajjad Karim MEP from Britain Stronger in Europe and Alan Halsall from Vote Leave put their arguments to Chamber members and took questions from the group.

Below we have a short snapshot of the event, followed by one-minute summaries from both Sajjad and Alan, then longer arguments from both representatives:
