FREE BUSINESS CLINIC: What impact has Brexit had on foreign exchange? 10AM - 4PM 28TH jULY 2016
Exchange rates are affected by a number of things including current affairs, a country’s economic performance, politics and data releases. Since the referendum, the uncertainty surrounding the UK economy has been unsettling leaving many UK exporters and importers in a tough position. The pound has decreased 11% against the Euro and 13% against the dollar since the Brexit vote. While this is making our exports more attractive, our imports are becoming significantly more expensive. With uncertainty being the most certain thing at the moment, Greater Manchester businesses need to protect themselves so that they aren’t seriously affected by the volatility of exchange rates. Over the next few months there are a number of things that could further affect the rate of the pound, these include:
Further referendum calls from other EU nations
UK Prime Minister announcement
US elections in November
Bank of England interest rate cuts
UK quantitative easing programme
Release of consumer confidence figures
