Does Britain send over £350 million a week to the EU?
True but misleading. In 2015 we paid around £18 billion to the EU, but we get an instant rebate of around £5 billion, making our contribution closer to £13 billion. Again, some of this is then split up and sent back out to us in various forms. The total we received in grants, subsidies and private sector spending from the EU in 2015 was £4.5 billion, making our net contribution in 2015 around £8.5 billion. For perspective this is less than 0.5% of UK GDP. Most of the figures you will hear do not include the money we get back, so be wary.
